Ward Coordinator in University Hospital Sharjah is accountable to promote excellent patient care, family and visitor focused service. Provide administrative assistance to the clinical unit/ward staff and accurate data transmission of patient movement. Provides efficient reception and clerical services, maintain patient records.
Responsibilities of Ward Coordinator in University Hospital
- Trains new and relief ward clerks and orientates new medical and nursing staff to the clerical requirements of the ward.
- Performs duties in accordance with relevant Safety and Health parameters.
- Participates in a continuous process to monitor, evaluate and develop services and performance as directed by the Nurse Manager or the Charge Nurse.
- Undertakes other duties as directed.
- Assists with the maintenance of a clean, safe environment
- Demonstrates sensitivity to patients’ comfort and privacy and expresses interest in their progress.
- Utilizes and ensures maintenance of equipment and instruments, reporting any damages, equipment malfunctioning to the IT department and nurse in charge immediately.
- Assist Physician/Nurses to overcome language barriers.
- Assist the Nurses with the Charges of the Consumables and Escort bed.
- Check daily the diet list and inform the team leader for any deficiency.
- Arrange, attend and take the ward meeting minutes as required
- Participates in continuous quality improvement initiatives, in service education programs, unit meetings and committee functions as assigned by the manager.
- Initiates emergency, safety practices and fire safety measures as necessary
- Reports all incidents through agreed channels and chain of command, ensuring Incident report is completed, submitted to nurse in charge and any immediate action required taken
- Maintains and adheres to patient confidentiality at all times
- Responsible for attendance to yearly mandatory training as scheduled on mandatory training calendar
- The employment terms and conditions for this position are specified in the individuals Employment Contract
- To ensure that all patient escort where permitted are registered and escort card is issued to them.
- Coordinate the requested escort certificates per UHS policy
Qualifications
- Diploma or bachelor degree /Admin or health care related
- 2 year of experience/training in clerical/reception duties or Ward Coordinator
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Demonstrated ability to use computer keyboards and printers.
- Proficient in verbal and written Arabic/English
- Previous clerical experience within the health care industry.
- Demonstrated knowledge of a computerized patient care system.
- Understating of basic medical terminology
