KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS OF LACTATION CONSULTANT IN MEDICLINIC CITY HOSPITAL
- Develop and implement standards of care guidelines for assisting breastfeeding mothers
- Plan and coordinate patient and family member educational activities
- Develops and maintains current breastfeeding resource materials for educational purposes
- Assess patient breastfeeding progress and provide professional guidance and support
- Actively participate in relevant community initiatives aimed at raising awareness and education
- Maintain and update Key Performance Indicators according to the requirements of the Baby Friendly Hospital initiative
REQUIRED EDUCATION
- A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing /or Midwifery from a recognised Nursing Institute
- IBCLC certification
- A postgraduate qualification in Midwifery will be an advantage
EXPERIENCE
- At least 2 years experience as a Lactation Consultant
REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Breastfeeding process, antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum health care and psychosocial issues
- Client service and related management principles
- Facilitation skills and principles of adult learning
- Knowledge of pharmaceuticals and the effects on lactation for antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum patients and newborn babies to toddlers
- Organising skills
- Fluency in written and spoken English (Arabic language skills are well regarded)
- High level of verbal and written communication skills
- High level of interpersonal and organizational skills
- Demonstrated competence in working autonomously as required
- Computer literacy at an intermediate level
- Demonstrated professional knowledge of the breastfeeding process, ante-partum, intra-partum and postpartum healthcare and psychosocial issues
- Knowledge of the breast feeding care and educational principles, practices, procedures and techniques required to assess learning needs, develop an educational plan, and teach/counsel staff,
- patients and family members and evaluate the effectiveness of the instruction
- Verbal and written communication skills in English (Arabic will be an advantage)
